Bucky Jacobsen's Progress

Bucky had a decent night on Friday, going 2 for 4 with 2 singles. While he had yet to hit anything more than a double, it looks like Bucky's getting his legs back under him.

If you are interested in "watching" his games, Minor League Baseball has a gameday feature that allows you to see the game reports in real time. You can review past game logs as well and sometimes get radio broadcasts - it's helpful if you know Spanish. Click on the Olmecas de Tabasco page at www.milb.com for more.

Update on Bucky

Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times ran into Bucky while heading to Cleveland (via Houston) to cover the Mariners/Indians series. According to Baker, Bucky had been spurned by the Asian teams and Mexico until he got a call the morning of April 4th. The Tabasco Olmecas needed him about a week into their season, and Bucky was on his way.

On a totally different note, the Mountain Press ran an article about the new the mascot family for the Smokies baseball team where Bucky played in 2003 when it was a Cardinals' farmteam. The family includes brother and sister bears Slugger and Diamond and their friend, Clucky Jacobson, a chicken named after a favorite former player, Bucky Jacobsen. Fame is evidently all relevant.
